⚠️
Noise & Heat Warning
ASICs are industrial equipment. They're as loud as a vacuum cleaner (70-90 dB) and produce significant heat. Don't run them in living spaces - garage, basement, or outdoor enclosure recommended.

🔌 Power Requirements

Miner ModelPower DrawCircuit Required
Antminer S19 Pro3250W240V / 20A dedicated
Antminer S213500W240V / 20A dedicated
Whatsminer M50S3300W240V / 20A dedicated
Avalon A13663400W240V / 20A dedicated

⚠️ Do NOT plug into regular outlets. You need a dedicated 240V circuit like a dryer outlet.

📦 Unboxing & Inspection

Step 1: Check for Damage

🔥
Take Photos
Document any damage immediately. Take photos of box, miner, and serial number before first power-on. Needed for warranty claims.

Step 2: What's in the Box

  • ASIC miner unit - The main device
  • Power supply (PSU) - Built-in or external depending on model
  • Power cables - Heavy gauge cables for high wattage
  • Documentation - Quick start guide, warranty info
  • Ethernet cable - Sometimes included (Cat5e)

⚡ Power Setup

⚠️
DANGER - High Voltage
ASICs use 240V high-power circuits. If you're not comfortable with electrical work, hire an electrician. Improper wiring can cause fires or electrocution.

Option 1: Dedicated 240V Outlet (Recommended)

Most ASIC owners use a 240V NEMA 6-20 or 6-30 outlet (same as electric dryer).

What You Need:

  • • 240V / 20A dedicated circuit breaker
  • • NEMA 6-20 outlet installed by electrician
  • • Appropriate power cable (usually included with miner)

Option 2: Server PSU with Breakout Board

Some miners (especially older models) use external server PSUs with breakout boards.

Note: This is more complex and only needed if your miner didn't come with an integrated PSU. Most modern ASICs (2022+) have built-in PSUs.

🚨
Do NOT Power On Yet
Don't turn on your miner until network is connected! ASICs need pool configuration before they start hashing.

🌐 Network Connection

ASICs require Ethernet connection (WiFi is NOT supported on most models). Plug directly into your router.

Ethernet Setup:

🔍 Where's the Network Port?

Usually on the back or side of the control board. Look for an RJ45 jack (looks like oversized phone jack). Some miners have TWO ports - use either one (they're the same).

💡
No WiFi on ASICs
Unlike Bitaxe, ASICs don't support WiFi. They're designed for data centers with wired connections. If your router is far away, use a long Ethernet cable or powerline adapter.

🔍 Finding Your Miner's IP Address

Once connected, your ASIC will get an IP address from your router. You need this to access the web interface.

Method 1: Router Admin Page (Easiest)

1

Power on your ASIC

Flip power switch on PSU or plug in power cable

2

Wait 30-60 seconds

Fans will spin up loud - this is normal

3

Access router admin page

Common router IPs:

• 192.168.1.1 (most common)
• 192.168.0.1
• 10.0.0.1
• 192.168.2.1
4

Find connected devices

Look for section called "DHCP Clients", "Device List", "Connected Devices", or "LAN Status"

5

Identify your miner

Look for device names like:

• "antMiner"
• "whatsminer"
• "Avalon"
• Unknown device with new IP
6

Note the IP address

Example: 192.168.1.150

Method 2: IP Scanner Software

Use IP scanning tools to find all devices on your network:

Windows:
  • • Advanced IP Scanner (free)
  • • Angry IP Scanner
Mac:
  • • LanScan (App Store)
  • • Angry IP Scanner
Linux:

Method 3: Manufacturer Discovery Tool

Some brands provide discovery software:

  • Bitmain: IP Reporter tool (download from support site)
  • MicroBT: Whatsminer Tool
  • Canaan: AvalonMiner IP Reporter

🖥️ Accessing the Web Interface

Now that you have the IP address, access your miner's control panel:

Login Steps:

🔑 Default Login Credentials

Antminer (Bitmain):
Username: root
Password: root
Whatsminer (MicroBT):
Username: admin
Password: admin
Avalon (Canaan):
Username: root
Password: root
AvalonMiner:
Username: admin

🔥
Change Password Immediately
First thing after login: change the default password! Default credentials are public knowledge and leave your miner vulnerable to hackers.

What You'll See:

The dashboard varies by brand, but typically shows:

  • • Hashrate (currently 0 - not configured yet)
  • • Temperature readings per hash board
  • • Fan speeds (RPM)
  • • Network status
  • • Pool configuration (empty - you'll fill this next)

⛏️ Pool Configuration

Now the most important step: telling your miner WHERE to mine and WHERE to send Bitcoin rewards.

⚙️ Optimization Settings

Default settings work fine, but you can optimize for efficiency, noise, or maximum hashrate.

🎚️ Mining Modes

Most modern ASICs have preset modes:

Normal Mode (Recommended)

Balanced hashrate and efficiency. Default setting for most miners.

Low Power Mode

Reduces wattage and hashrate. Good for expensive electricity or hot climates.

Example: S19 Pro drops from 3250W → 2850W, 110 TH/s → 90 TH/s

High Performance Mode

Maximum hashrate, higher power and heat. Only use with good cooling.

Example: S19 Pro goes 3250W → 3500W, 110 TH/s → 120 TH/s

🌡️ Temperature Management

Target Chip Temperature:
  • Ideal: 60-70°C
  • Acceptable: 70-80°C
  • Too Hot: 80°C+ (reduce power or improve cooling)
⚠️
Overheating Throttles Performance
If temps exceed 85°C, miner will automatically throttle hashrate to protect hardware. Improve ventilation or reduce power mode.

💨 Fan Settings

Auto Mode (Recommended):

Fans speed up/slow down based on temperature. Most efficient.

Manual Speed:

You can set fixed percentage (60%, 80%, 100%). Higher = cooler but louder.

Immersion Cooling:

If using liquid cooling, disable fans entirely. Only do this if you know what you're doing!

📊 Monitoring & Maintenance

📈 What to Monitor Daily:
